My background may help to explain my approach to life somewhat. Born in Montreal, met my husband in Toronto, ran off to the Bahamas and lived on an uninhabited island for two years, after having built a dock, cut down the bush, and built a house. Then started a business in Nassau which, over 27 years, grew into the largest customs brokerage on the island, during which time we spent several months a year travelling, usually to France and Italy. Sold out in 1986, retired to Boca Raton (a bit too manicured), moved to San Francisco for eight years (loved it), then returned to live in Fort Lauderdale close to friends and family.
My sweet and oh so patient husband was promoted to a higher level eleven years ago, just shortly after I had started to rehab and renovate small houses for rental or resale. Then I began to design and develop a lovely townhouse project at the worst possible time. With the demise of the housing market, this operation is no longer in the cards, I'm afraid, and I am now living in quite reduced circumstances, proving my adaptability in a pinch. My home currently is a little 1945 cottage in an "emerging" neighborhood of downtown Fort Lauderdale, which I attempted to morph from a pig's ear into a silk purse, with a certain amount of success I'm told, mostly by my own efforts necessitated by my alarming lack of funds. Just another challenge in my life, albeit a considerable one, which somehow I shall deal with. And while I am too annoyed with both political parties to belong to either, I am most definitely liberal and fear that no Republican could stand me for more than five minutes, tops.
So you see, I am no longer wealthy but my sense of humor makes all things possible. However, I have good taste, am a damned fine cook and wine connoisseur, having learned a great deal from my husband in these fields, and love to entertain amusing people around a well laden dinner table. However, the summers keep getting hotter and in the back of my mind the idea of relocation seems to come up more often. My life has been one of new experiences. I don't think I'll ever outgrow my sense of adventure so who knows where I'll end up.
